Ahh, one of my favourites topics – the Balanced Diet. It’s the key to good nutrition and the key to losing weight. No two ways about it. There’s no better way than through healthy meals to be overall healthy and trim.

Which only leaves the question “how?”. What is a Balanced Diet? How do I get one?

It’s a diet where you eat a wide range of healthy foods and drinks in proportion. Some foods you can eat to your heart’s, or stomach’s, content, others you must almost eliminate. Let’s get straight into it and look at these extremes now.

Eat more of these healthy foods
Vegetables. Fresh vegetables are probably the best thing you can eat. Especially green ones. They say seven serves a day is key. That’s a lot especially if you don’t eat much now. (We’ll look at strategies to eat better later in this article).

Fruit. Not my favorite things in the world. I still have to really remind myself to have an apple or mandarin or banana but I I always feel good about myself when I do. I find fruit is a great way to satisfy my sugar cravings. May not always completely satisfy them but certainly reduces my cravings and that’s a good thing.

Eat less of these. Much less.
We simply eat too much of everything. Maybe with the exception of healthy foods. We certainly eat too much of the bad stuff. We even eat too much of some good stuff. A good, healthy, trim diet also means eating less of everything – good or bad.

Obvious bad stuff. You guessed it, sugary, fatty, salty foods. This doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the occasional donut or soft drink. It just means you’ve seriously got to reduce the amount you have.

Not so obvious stuff. Carbs – great things, no doubt. We all need them for energy. It’s just we get way too many of them in our diet. Less carbs is a great way to a lose weight. Fix your diet by increasing your fiber and protein levels.

Looking to lose weight
A Balanced Diet rich in healthy foods will get you there. And keep you there. It was a revelation to me that the best way to lose pounds is to eat. I thought it was not to eat. I’d much rather eat thanks.
I’ve found the best way to lose weight is not to feel full. If my hunger is satisfied I’m much less likely to snack. Snacking, as we all know, is the friend of fat.
I find low GI foods are good for the feel full factor and good nutrition. Check them out.

Also healthy foods rich in fiber or protein are also nutritious ways to feel full for longer.
I think the immediate thought for many people, me included, is that a Balanced Diet requires a major change in your life. Diet and exercise isn’t always easy to achieve in a busy life. Completely eat different foods and if it tastes good it must not be good for me. For some people that’s true. I should know because my diet has been out of balance for as long as I can remember.
Having said that, great nutrition is a long-term life project.

Going cold turkey on an ‘imbalanced’ diet is not the right approach for most of us. You can keep it going for a while but temptation will raise its ugly head. In fact, temptation usually has a beautiful head. Like the head on a cold glass of beer. Or the head of frothy cream on a chocolate shake. Enough already!

The way to a Balanced Diet is take it one day at a time. One meal at a time. Be gentle but firm on yourself. Keep reminding yourself that this is a life goal.
It’s not easy to get your diet right. But it’s certainly achievable if you take your time and do it gradually.

Won’t be long before you start to notice differences. Maybe you may misplace a few pounds…don’t go looking for them, OK?!? Your Balanced Diet may have introduced you to new, healthy foods that you now crave. Rather crave good stuff than sweets.

Enjoy!

by John Q. Livesworthy

Sushi anyone? Who would have thought it, sushi and chic in the same sentence? And it looks like it is here to stay.

It seems that everywhere I look, there’s a sushi bar, restaurant, sushi at wedding’s, and it seems to be here to stay. Many more Americans are getting on the sushi craze and college campuses as well. Cafeterias on many major universities are now serving this trendy treat.

Whether using your fingers or eating sushi with chopsticks, you will find that there are many different tastes and textures. The ancient Japanese looked for a way to preserve fish for an extended period and they developed the art of sushi. Today the small bite wonders of sushi are considered a delicacy.

I first experienced sushi in the 70′s when a friend introduced me to California rolls. Those weren’t as bad as I had been afraid they were going to be. On the contrary, I really enjoyed them and still do. But as far back as the early 50′s, just about the time World War II ended, American’s were already eating sushi.

Not only has sushi been on the rise in the U. S., in Japan the American style sushi is on the rise as well. From the late 80′s up to the beginning of the 21st century, sushi establishments have quadrupled or more. That should tell you that the taste of sushi to the palate Americans is continuing to rise.

Several processes are used to prepare the sushi, such as soaking the fish in rice wine, pickling the fish or for tofu, cooked shellfish. But not all sushi contains raw fish. Actually the word sushi means vinegared rice, which is the main ingredient in sushi.

Sushi is served with a greenish paste sauce called Wasabi, which is made with a Japanese horseradish. In addition to soy sauce for dipping sushi can also be served with a pickled ginger sauce which will cleanse the palate between bites. It is also said that it helps in the digestion of the sushi.

As many of us are growing more and more conscious of our health, sushi can be a great source of nutrients. One serving of sushi, which consists of about 6 pieces, will not contain more than 500 calories. Eating sushi provides us with omega 3, fatty acids necessary for a healthy diet, as well as the lean source of protein.

Whether you are already a sushi eater or about to take the plunge, it is always best to ask for a recommendation from the chef about what to order. Typically if you are a 1st time diner, it is best to start with the rolled sushi. If in a big group it is easy to order a variety of things, giving an opportunity for all to be shared.

Obesity has become an epidemic in our society. The health impact is very serious with illnesses resulting from being overweight such as diabetes, heart problems, breathing troubles, circulation problems, and much more. This has led to a rise in weight loss programs and pills. Many of these diet aids have not been successful. Fortunately, there is one weight loss method that is having positive results. Today, weight loss surgeries are gaining more acknowledgment as an effective method of losing weight.

If you have been observing your weight increasing and decreasing on a regular basis, you may want to consider weight loss surgery. Weight loss surgery has helped many people lose weight, transform their appearance for the better, and improve their overall health and well being. Weight loss surgery such as lap-band surgery and gastric bypass surgery can be well worth considering. However, there are preconditions to becoming a candidate for weight loss surgery. One must consider the following

1. One must meet a certain weight qualification. Most surgeons require that women be at least 80 pounds overweight before they will consider doing surgery for them. Men should usually be 100 pounds or more overweight. The body mass index (BMI) should be 40 or more, or a BMI of 35 with other weight related issues such as diabetes, heart disease, or hypertension. If you fall into this weight category, you may be a potential candidate

2. If you have serious health problems, you may not qualify for the surgery. This can include chronic heart or breathing illnesses.

3. If your obesity is threatening your health or even your life, you may be considered for weight-loss surgery. Such health risks include the risk of heart disease, strokes, cancer, respiratory disease, and liver disease.

You should discuss all options with your doctor and make it clear why you are considering weight loss surgery as an alternative to dieting and exercise. After weight-loss surgery, you will have to follow a sensibly balanced diet and healthy lifestyle in order to keep the weight from returning.

Medical reasons to consider weight loss surgery include: reversal of Type 2 Diabetes, improved fertility, improved or eliminated Hypertension, and living longer. Studies demonstrate that the lifespan of a person can be reduced by up to 20 years with morbid obesity.

Gastric bypass surgery and lap-band surgery are the two most popular weight-loss surgeries. Gastric bypass surgery involves having your stomach stapled. Lap-band surgery involves inserting an adjustable or removable band. With lap-band surgery or gastric bypass surgery, your doctor will ask that you start an exercise program and to begin eating healthy foods. If you dont, then you will gain back the weight.

Not only will you be healthier when you lose the weight, you can enjoy activities you may have avoided for years such as going to the beach, swimming, walking, and much more. Again, weight loss surgery is not for everyone.

Unfortunately, the rate of obesity is steadily growing. One has to remember that weight loss surgery is a major life altering medical procedure. It is a serious decision that should be discussed with your doctor, family, and other important loved ones.

by Scott Edwards

As we consider how our lives should be in the future, mental images pop into our heads. Perhaps we think of having a really good relationship, with more expensive holidays and a luxury home. It’s probable we’ll view our figure differently – with less body fat and a more toned physique.

Whiling away such thoughts is useful. Knowing what we want to have is essential to determining how our lives might be. Unless we have a vision of how things will look when we’ve reached the lofty heights of our personal success, we’ve little chance of ever getting there.

Positive visualisation alone won’t bring results though. We must accept that changes will be needed. “The definition of insanity,” according to Albert Einstein, “is to do the same thing and expect different results.” Said another way – we’ll always have what we’ve always had if we’re not prepared to change the things we do.

We need to not only massively change the way we do things, but also massively change the way we think. Only then will we make big steps forward in what we have. Not a big revelation then to realise that a smidgen of exertion will be needed to get the things we want to have. It’s a basic law of life that we have to give in order to receive. Though effort alone won’t inevitably bring results.

We accomplish success by embracing the thoughts and behaviour of a successful person – assuming the characteristics and values of a winner before we’ve actually become one. For instance, if our aim is to slim down and lose twenty five pounds in weight, then we must work-out and eat in the same way a lighter, healthier person would do.

Hanging out with friends comes after the work-out’s been completed. There will be time for enjoyment when the task is accomplished in the achiever’s mind-set. The right attitude to doing what it takes will reap the rewards that much quicker.

Victory won’t come looking for us. A robust attitude to our efforts will support us when we experience the knocks.

Spending time reading books or watching films of how others achieved their goals can help. We come across the same story time after time; their attitude and self-image is what created the results. By focusing on becoming who we need to be, we’ll enjoy the exertions we have to do more and receive the things we want to have so much faster.

Figuring the right nutritional approach for losing arm flab can be like finding a needle in a haystack. How so? Because with all the marketing campaigns out there the truth has been hidden amongst all the falsehoods.

by Katherine Crawford M.S.

Figuring the right nutritional approach for losing arm flab can be like finding a needle in a haystack. How so? Because with all the marketing campaigns out there the truth has been hidden amongst all the falsehoods.

I’m pretty sure you’re having a challenge finding the perfect diet

If so, you’re not alone. I suspect that most women are utterly lost when it comes to solid nutrition for arm flab loss. I know I was.

So here are 4 reasons why you shouldn’t go on a high carb diet for arm flab loss:

1. Sugar overdose. Being around lots of carbs means being around lots of sugar in one form or another. And if you have a sugar addiction you should definitely stay away from high carb eating. After all, once you start having sugar it will be very hard to stop.

2. Can increase insulin resistance. The research has shown time and again that those with insulin resistance do far better with lower carb diets. So if you’re insulin resistant, high carb dieting is not for you.

3. Oscillating levels of hunger. If you eat a large amount of carbs you run the risk of taking your blood sugar for a roller coaster ride. Why? Because carbohydrates have the biggest impact on blood sugar levels. The best way to counteract this is with an enormous vegetable intake.

4. Sluggish arm fat loss. If you’re looking for fast results this probably isn’t the diet for you. When cranking up the carb intake, fat loss comes at a very slow rate.

Learning how to get rid of arm flab doesn’t have to be hard. If you ignore all the marketing hype and focus on what is backed by research and experience, you’ll do just fine. And if you’re looking for fast arm toning then choose a diet with lower amounts of carbs. This will give you the best results.

Have You Discovered Your Best Weight Loss Program? We all know how easy it is to fail when trying to lose weight. Hence finding a dieting routine that complements our lifestyle is what we need. Normal life has to go on – we can’t suddenly turn off everything else that we do.

In addition, we need to still enjoy the food that we eat. We can’t be expected to stick with a regime if all it offers are soups and mixes. So we’ve done our research and discovered plans that tick all the right boxes.

For fast results, and long term loss, we found 3 excellent guides. All three contain expertly researched, controlled and tested programs. They help us to get to grips with where we’ve gone astray in the past. They’ll all allow us to feel satisfied – and sometimes encourage us to eat more than we do now.

Most diets take over our life – these offer our life back to us. They not only promise weight reduction, they also promise a surge in vitality.

Read The Evidence Now… We have great respect for the creators of these dietary lifestyle plans and their technical know-how. We are only the messengers – get the truth from the horse’s mouth! Go to our synopsis site right away, and get on the road to your new life.

Realise that you’re re-educating many years of eating habits. Be fair on yourself. It might take a while to appreciate the good thing you’re on to.

Postscript… I (Scott) can testify to the validity of these programs. I cautiously learned about them all, and selected the two I thought I could best integrate into my life. To this date I’ve lost forty seven lbs of body fat! I’m like a new person – a slim(mer) more energised version of my old self. I have no desire to return to my old habits.

At the very least look at one or two – I’m sure if I can do it, you can too. To Your Success, Scott – The world’s previously most unsuccessful dieter!

by Scott Edwards

The Slimming Business Is A Daunting One… And huge business empires have grown out of this. So it’s not unreasonable to assume that as so much money is spent every year, slimming businesses face the temptation to take advantage of overweight people.

Just How Much of a Problem Is There Then? As you’re reading this paper, you’d probably prefer to be a bit lighter. It’s understood from recent surveys that more than 2/3rds of American people are overweight. So that is well over 200 Million individuals!

And many other countries will shortly have a similar situation. But we don’t want this to happen!

It’s thought that in Britain alone, around one quarter of over 18′s are obese, which equates to a minimum of thirty to forty pounds overweight. This figure is set to get much higher. Some predictions forecast this figure will rise to 90 percent in forty years time.

But we can do something about it! No-one wants this trend to continue. Easy to follow information is what’s needed. We shouldn’t have to spend a fortune on diet products.

It is commonly understood in medical circles that weight problems lead to other difficulties, including… Cancer – Heart Disease – Heart Failure – Type Two Diabetes – High Blood Pressure – Liver Disease – High Cholesterol – Osteoarthritis.

So our health is at stake – the weight must come off. Reducing your weight and getting into good physical shape is more important than being thin. In truth, we most likely have a gut feel for the weight that works best for our body.

We need to consider the health of our children too. If we’re being responsible parents, we have to show them with our actions. Nothing will change if we keep doing the same thing. Who wants to be that kind of benefactor?

Don’t Feel Guilty About Being Too Heavy… Allow a little clarification for starters though – We aren’t implying here that you don’t take responsibility for your weight management. It’s just that we believe you’ve been given misleading information.

Our article is not meant to upset or confuse you even more; that would be wrong. We’d like you to have access to some life-changing material. That way you can get back to really living again.

Many of the reasons we’ve grown so large are not down to us. Let’s break the chain though and take control. We can learn new and enjoyable habits that will lose the weight. Life doesn’t have to be such a struggle.

Look at it like this; can a motor repairer fix a Mercedes with Fiat tools? Everything’s the wrong fit! If the mechanic hasn’t got the correct size of tools, how can he ever deal with the issues of the car?

Having the appropriate tools for the job in hand is vital. The mechanic will understand the basics of what he’s supposed to do, but his tools will let him down.

And so it is with weight reduction. So our aim here is to proffer a set of tools that will work as instruments of weight reduction. In truth, we’re all individuals on this earth. We like it to be that way. What works for one doesn’t always work for another.

A selection of systems and tools will give you the choice to find one that ‘fits’ you. It’s likely that most of us have experience of when during each day we find diets easy going or tough. As a rule, a busy routine makes dieting much easier.

A passive lifestyle then can be said to be a very negative contributor where weight management is concerned. What we need are unique, tailored systems. Only then will we learn how to re-build our lives and become slimmer, more vital and bursting with energy.

Almost daily in the news we see reports of chocolate’s health benefits. It’s a potent antioxidant, and is chock-full of chemicals and nutrients that have been attributed to making us happy. Yet many of us remain skeptical; eating lots of chocolate doesn’t seem to make us feel better, and in fact can lower energy levels for awhile. So what gives? If chocolate is such a miracle food, shouldn’t we be able to eat it all the time, without guilt and feel great? Well, yes, we can, but the way chocolate is prepared is crucial to unlocking its true potential as a health food. If you’d like to learn how to have a healthy dose of chocolate daily, read on…

Raw, unroasted chocolate IS A MUST to really reap the health benefits. Little of this fact is given weight in the mass-media’s portrayal of chocolate’s health benefits, but its the crucial point for anyone interested in bettering their health naturally. There’s a big difference in the chemical composition of un-roasted, naturally-dried chocolate when compared to 99% of the chocolate products available today. Nearly every single chocolate bar or drink, even at the large-chain heath food markets, is made from chocolate that’s been roasted at high temperatures. ‘Organic’ does not mean raw; chocolate powder is not raw unless it says its raw. High-end organic hot chocolate drinks are still roasted, and likely processed with alkali to make them dissolve more easily. Why the roasting and processing? Because we’ve become accustom to chocolate looking and tasting like it has since our childhoods. Working with raw chocolate (called Cacao – note this is different than Cocoa!), like so many things that are really good for you, is best prepared at home using carefully selected ingredients. It’s easy to do, and we’ll include some recipes at the end. But first back to the question of why raw is better.

Energy and stimulation is at the heart of the chocolate experience, but many people are sensitive to chocolate’s effects. There are however, significant differences in the alkaloid structures of raw and roasted chocolate. Raw chocolate’s stimulation comes primarily from theobromine, which has little anxiety producing effects. Studies by natural wellness professionals and user reports both note that while commercially prepared dark chocolate has a very stimulating action that caffeine sensitive individuals may find too strong, an equivalent amount of raw cacao does not. The stimulating effects are reported mild, gentle, and without a ‘crash’ that is often associated with caffeine. A reason for mothers to think about creating their own raw chocolate treats for their children, too. The jury is still out on the actual amount if caffeine in raw chocolate; some investigators have found none, some have found small amounts in the ‘skin’ of the cacao beans, and others of found only small amounts in beans that have fermented somewhat (an indication of a lower-quality cacao). Either way, if you’ve refrained from chocolate because of it’s caffeine content, raw cacao may just be your answer to enjoying this treat again.

The really big news about chocolate has been it’s antioxidant profile. Chocolate contains significant amounts of polyphenols — the same important antioxidants found in green tea, red wine and green apples — but in greater amounts. Dark chocolate contains an impressive 5% of these compounds, yet raw chocolate is made up of an incredible 10% concentration of these possibly life-extending molecules. Both roasting and processing with alkali (to make Dutch cocoa) reduce antioxidant concentration. Further, the increased absorbability of powdered raw cacao (perhaps the most versatile form of raw chocolate) over cacao nibs give them an edge in ORAC value, a measure of Oxidative Radical Absorbance Capacity.

Finally, the question of mood-enhancing neurochemicals and precursors. Chocolate contains significant quantities of the essential amino acid tryptophan. Tryptophan intake has recently been collated with neurogenesis, the development of new brain cells, and both long and short term memory. The presence of tryptophan is critical for the production of serotonin, a primary neurotransmitter associated with mood (Prozac works on the principal of enhancing the action of serotonin). Once in the body tryptophan reacts with B-vitamins in the presence of magnesium (all present in raw chocolate) to produce serotonin. Enhanced serotonin function assists in diminishing anxiety and stress – ccording to Dr. Gabriel Cousens, serotonin is literally our “stress-defense shield.” Tryptophan is heat sensitive and is often deficient in many cooked-food diets, even when animal protein intake is high. In addition to tryptophan (but not heat sensitive) chocolate also contains PEA, the ‘love hormone’ and Anandamide the ‘bliss chemical’.

Convinced? Ready for a little raw chocolate power? First its critical to find a good source; make sure the chocolate you’re buying is raw – it’s most often labeled as ‘Cacao’, the name for the raw chocolate beans and the tree on which they grow. Cacao nibs are small pieces of pure raw chocolate that can be eaten straight, or mixed with other healthy snacks like dried fruits. But the best-loved raw chocolate preparation is the original chocolate drink: hot chocolate. Now it won’t be hot enough for long enough to convert any chemicals or to cook the chocolate, just to make it a warm comforting drink – and of course, heating the water isn’t necessary at all (though in recipes calling for Coconut oil, it helps to blend the oil into the drink). So to make a cup, use powdered raw chocolate (grinding the nibs or beans in a coffee grinder can work, though you’ll find this challenging as the natural oils in the chocolate will heat up and liquefy before the grinding is complete, leaving little crunchy bits). Put one or two tablespoons powdered chocolate, one to two teaspoons raw dark agave nectar (a low-glycemic index natural sweetner) and one to two teaspoons of Coconut oil in a blender. Add eight to twelve ounces almost-boiling water and blend for ten seconds. That’s it! You’ll find your personal favorite formula after a few preparations – more or less chocolate, oil, sweetener or water.

There are many, many recipes available online and in books about raw chocolate. Some favorite additions to the drink are Maca (Peruvian Ginseng), essential oils like Vanilla, Peppermint or Orange (just one drop is often enough) or a little powdered cinnamon. Raw chocolate bars for your family are very easy to make, really just by omitting the water and adjusting the oil and sweetener ratios to make a thick chocolate paste. Add some chopped nuts if you like, press into a casserole dish and put it in the refrigerator long enough to make it firm. Experiment; it’s chocolate! You’re supposed to have fun. And with raw chocolate, it might be the most fun you can have eating while positively and naturally benefiting your health.

There had been many weight loss products introduced in the market. People who have weight issues are often attracted to try various weight loss products in the hopes that they would work for them. Unfortunately, not all of them work and in some cases, they even cause negative effects.

At present, one of the most popular weight loss products out in the market is the acai berries. These are actually fruits from acai palm trees that often grow from the Central and South America. Many local people have been using the berries for many years due to its purposes for cooking and as a medicinal product. In fact, in countries like Brazil, Belize and Peru, people use acai berries for desert products like yogurt or cakes.

Just recently, the weight loss properties and health benefits of the acai berries have been brought to the world when many companies started marketing the product as a dietary supplement. While it has only been sold as a fresh or dried fruit before, it now comes in juice, powder and tablet forms for easier handling and distribution. This is done so the many benefits of the acai tree could be brought to everyone around the globe.

Many researcher conducted studies to establish the health benefits that the acai berries provide. Aside from the weight loss, effect that it is very popular for, it is also believed to be helpful in the good performance of the body’s digestive, cardiovascular and immune systems. Many people who have used the product also claims that it provides healthier skin, better sleep and improved energy.

The acai berries have high fiber content. This is good in detoxifying the body and flushing out the toxins that thrives in the stomach. With these bad things out of the body, it can absorb more nutrients from the food we eat and improve our digestive process.

Our heart also benefits a lot from the acai berries. There are presence of omega vitamins in this fruit that lowers the blood cholesterol and helps improve the blood flow. It also has anti-oxidants that are said to be good for our bodies aging process.

With the countless benefits that acai berries provide to our health, many people deemed it as the SUPER FOOD. Many health professionals are not endorsing this product not only for weight loss but also for overall health. In fact, many TV shows and magazines featured the acai berries.

In the various forms that acai berries are now available, some chemical preservatives are added to improve its shelf life. If you rather have it in it’s purest, most organic form, you can also buy them as fresh or dried fruit. This is one of the best options available for those who are looking to find a dietary supplement. Not only help them with weight management but would also be good for their overall health condition.

Anyone could buy acai berries in many health stores all over the world. If you find it difficult to find one in your area or don’t want the hassle of going out of the way, there are also many companies selling them through the Internet. People who have pre-existing health conditions or pregnant women must consult their doctor’s first before taking acai berries or any other dietary supplements for that matter.
