A filling breakfast or an empty breakfast?
It can be hard at times, what with work and school, to even get in the most important meal of the day…breakfast. A lot of people pop toaster pastries or grab a high carb, sugary cereal bar, that may be tasty but for one it does not fill you up and secondly it is not healthy, just empty calories. A healthy and nutritious breakfast is important to your overall health. You can learn how to fit into your busy schedule an all natural breakfast that does not sacrifice taste or time while bringing you delicious foods that are good for you.
While not exactly news to most of us, a healthy breakfast contributes to getting a good start to the day. In a world of energy drink chuggers and workaholics this message is largely being ignored. A proper, healthy breakfast, helps not only with energy but also has the benefit of added brain function according to numerous studies. Choosing a breakfast with a low glycemic index or GI, is especially helpful in this.
GO GI
Glycemic Index or GI, is essentially a rating system that provides an estimate of how certain foods will affect your body’s blood sugar and glucose levels. A food item with a low glucose level such as an organic fruit salad will provide more sustained energy and also provide more satiety. This will make you feel fuller and more satisfied after eating and also helps with concentration and mood. As we all know, from infancy to old age people get cranky when they are hungry. We also know that at work or school it is sometimes not feasible to have a snack before lunch-time.
A low GI breakfast is not tasteless or drab, in fact there are many cool ideas on how to make your low GI breakfast extraordinary. GI foods abound, it’s just a matter of keeping your eyes out for them and getting to know the nutritional panel of the foods you eat.
If time is not on your side, pre-made healthy breakfast like whole grain breakfast burritos or scrambled eggs frozen the night before can be ready in minutes the next day. Keeping fresh fruits on hand is also important, they can be eaten on-the-run and also blended to make a spectacular breakfast smoothie. You also need not give up your favorite breakfast items, simply learn how to make them in a different way.
Whole grain pancakes with organic fruit like blueberries or a natural pure maple syrup, hold a low GI count and are yummy as well as good for you. Brewing your own free trade coffee can be beneficial to yourself and others around the world and green tea is good for you in numerous ways. Low fat plain yoghurt with granola is also a great and popular choice and again the addition of organic fruit helps you meet your serves for the day and also helps you feel fuller with out filling you with high GI sugary, processed foods.
Enjoy!
